Supreme Leader KIM JONG UN , General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), visited the Ministry of National Defense of the DPRK on February 8, the 78th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People's Army (KPA).
He was accompanied by Pak Jong Chon, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea and Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
He gave a speech to celebrate the anniversary of the army's founding.
Marshal KIM JONG UN said the following (in part):
"All generals and other officers and soldiers of the heroic armed forces of the Republic, generals and other officers of the Ministry of National Defense, the supreme command body of the Korean People's Army,
I congratulate you on the anniversary of the founding of the army on February 8th.
This day, on which we proudly remember the heroic history of building our army and its ever-victorious path, is a revolutionary holiday celebrated not only by members of the army, but by all people of the country.

Comrades,
We celebrate this day every year, but today I came here with a truly special feeling.
It is the day we celebrate the beginning of the road to the 9th Party Congress, which will open soon. I feel even more strongly the greatness and preciousness of our army.

The next five years, initiated by the 9th Party Congress, will also be years in which the extraordinary role of our army, which no one else can play, will be increased.

On the anniversary of the founding of the army, I once again extend my warmest congratulations to all officers and soldiers of the army, and I hope you will make even greater efforts.
Our brave army will continue to accelerate its advance for the country and the people, and its fighting spirit will be crowned with brilliant merits and glory.

The encouraging and mobilizing speech of the highly respected Marshal KIM JONG UN on the anniversary of the founding of the army raises and inspires the fighting spirit and defensive power of the KPA, while at the same time warning the imperialists of the consequences of a renewed attack on the DPRK.
The anniversary of the founding of the KPA is celebrated with particular pride by the Korean people, as it reaffirms the invincible strength and power of socialist Korea.
