June 1 is the International Children's Day.
As we greet this day, our people picture the happy faces of our children growing up with nothing to envy in the world.
Among them is a child living in an island village.
It was in August eleven years ago when a remote islet situated far from the capital became famous across the country thanks to a particular child.
His name is Jong Hang Myong, living in a small village on Jangjae Islet located off the southwest coast of the country.
Early morning on August 17, respected Comrade Kim Jong Un arrived at Jangjae Islet on board a small wooden boat.
The family members of the islet defence detachment hurriedly ran towards him with a mixture of surprise and happiness.
Amongst them, he caught sight of a mother carrying a baby.
Inquiring about the baby’s name and his father, he learned that his father was on an official trip.
He then held up the merely six-month-old Hang Myong and posed for a photo with the baby in his arms because he knew his father would otherwise feel sorry when he returns.
Until then Hang Myong’s parents could not even imagine how great a blessing was in store for their son.
It was the day just after Hang Myong’s first anniversary.
Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited Jangjae Islet for the second time.
He went to Hang Myong’s house and said that he meant to come on Hang Myong’s birthday, but couldn’t make it because he was pressed for time, then presented him a gift he personally prepared for the baby’s first anniversary.
Even afterwards, respected Comrade Kim Jong Un would call on Hang Myong whenever he visited Jangjae Islet and bestowed upon him all the paternal love.
Inspired by such love, Hang Myong has grown up healthy and also became famous across the country as a happy child blessed with the warmest love.
Now Hang Myong has grown up, entered the revolutionary school and has even won the prize for children’s literature – he wrote poems about the unforgettable memories of his past ten years.
And at the end of last year, he participated in the 9th Congress of the Korean Children’s Union as a representative and had the great honor of tying a red tie round respected Comrade Kim Jong Un at the photo session.
Thanks to the boundless benevolence of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, not only Hang Myong but also many other children in our country received unforgettable blessings of love of their lifetime.
The stories of other such children are well-known to our people.
They are Jang Po Song on Mu Islet and young brothers in the family of workers of Changjon Street - respected Comrade Kim Jong Un sent blessings for their future; the baby-son of the airplane pilot couple, who was personally christened by him; Ri Hyang and Ho Jun Hyok, who received replies to their letters, full of blessings from him; young campers at the Myohyangsan Mountaineering Camp of Pyongyang City Children’s Union, whom he waited for long hours before having a photo session with them; and the children from flood-stricken areas in North Hamgyong Province, who were considerately sent camping in Songdowon International Children’s Camp.
Indeed, as we hold in high esteem respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who assumed the responsibility of a true parent of all children across the country, taking care of them and warmly blessing their bright future, our children will enjoy the happiness that cannot be compared to anything else in the world and will grow up sound and healthy to be the pillars of the prosperous and powerful nation.

Pyongyang, June 1 (KCNA) -- Kim Yo Jong, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, issued the following press statement titled " No one can deny the DPRK's sovereign right to satellite launch" on June 1:
The U.S. is openly revealing its inveterate hostility toward the DPRK over its military reconnaissance satellite launch belonging to its right to self-defence.
A spokesperson for the National Security Council of the White House on Wednesday clamored that all countries should denounce the DPRK's military satellite launch, saying there is a danger of unnecessarily escalating tension and destabilizing the regional security as it is an open violation of the UNSC's "resolution".
It is neither surprising nor new, but the U.S. is letting loose a hackneyed gibberish prompted by its brigandish and abnormal thinking.
Who is escalating the tension unnecessarily and destabilizing the regional security situation?
If the DPRK's satellite launch should be particularly censured, the U.S. and all other countries, which have already launched thousands of satellites, should be denounced. This is nothing but sophism of self-contradiction.
The far-fetched logic that only the DPRK should not be allowed to do so according to the UNSC's "resolution" which bans the use of ballistic rocket technology irrespective of its purpose, though other countries are doing so, is clearly a gangster-like and wrong one of seriously violating the DPRK's right to use space and illegally oppressing it.
It is pitiful that the U.S.-style gangster-like logic was stipulated in the UNSC's "resolution".
The U.S. is a group of gangsters who would claim that even if the DPRK launches a satellite in space orbit through balloon, it is illegal and threatening.
It is the "tragedy of the U.S." in the 21st century that it can never give a correct answer with a wrong formula and has not discarded misunderstanding of it.
The U.S. should cool its head heated with confrontation hysteria and clearly look into the UN Charter and the provisions of the space treaty once again before groundlessly denying and pulling up a sovereign state over its satellite launch and its right to space development.
Even at this moment, the U.S. is absorbed in watching every movement of the DPRK with sharp eyes after flying a lot of reconnaissance satellites, high altitude unmanned reconnaissance planes and all other reconnaissance assets in the sky above the Korean Peninsula. It is just like a guilty party filing the suit first and illogical to pull up the DPRK over its military reconnaissance satellite launch.
The U.S. should no longer have illusion nor be overconfident itself.
No one vested the U.S. with the authority to take issue with the sovereign right of a specified state.
Taking this opportunity, we would like to once again clearly warn the U.S., which is trying to blind and deafen the eyes and ears of the international community with such honeyed dialogue ballad as "door of diplomacy" and "sincere negotiation".
We have no content of dialogue and do not feel the necessity of dialogue with the U.S. and its stooges that oft-repeat the "end of regime" and the "overthrow of system". We will continue our-style counteraction in a more offensive attitude so that they should not but realize that they will have nothing to benefit from the extension of the hostile policy toward the DPRK and how dangerous their pursuit of confrontation with the DPRK is.
We are ready to do whatever to defend our sovereign right and interests.
Reading the psychology of the U.S. and its stooges that are so uneasy about the DPRK's military reconnaissance satellite issue, we confirmed once again that the enemies are most afraid of the DPRK's access to excellent reconnaissance and information means including reconnaissance satellite and, accordingly, we are aware that we should direct greater efforts to developing reconnaissance means.
It is certain that the DPRK's military reconnaissance satellite will soon start its mission on a space orbit.
We are well aware of the protracted nature of the confrontation with the U.S. and will make all efforts to bolster up war deterrent in an all-inclusive direction, being conscious of the long-term threats and challenges.
If the U.S. and its stooges continue to commit rash acts of infringing upon our sovereign right, we will never remain an onlooker to them.

Pyongyang, June 1 (KCNA) -- Kim Son Gyong, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, released the following press statement titled "Dangerous sea intercepting drill escalating the regional tension" on June 1:
The U.S. and the south Korean puppets are persistently resorting to the saber-rattling against the DPRK despite deep concern and protest of the international community.
The U.S., which staged the actual nuclear war exercises Freedom Shield and "combined joint formation drill" in the light of its form and contents in March and April, is going to stage a sea intercepting drill together with Japan, south Korean puppets, Australia and other vassal forces according to the "Proliferation Security Initiative" (PSI) in the open waters off the South Sea of Korea in late May.
The U.S. cooked up PSI in 2003. In the past 20 years it has systematically expanded it and tried to use it as means for pressurizing the anti-U.S. independent countries.
It is illogical and mockery of the international law for the U.S., the world's biggest proliferator of WMDs and direct destroyer of international nuclear non-proliferation system, to talk about the control of someone's "WMD proliferation".
This is evidenced by the fact that the U.S. openly connived at Israel's possession of nukes and cooked up a nuclear proliferation mechanism called AUKUS to destroy the international nuclear non-proliferation system by itself.
It is just like a guilty party filing the suit first that the U.S., which has built bio-chemical weapon laboratories in south Korea, Ukraine and other regions and unhesitatingly spread WMDs to the whole world, is talking about "non-proliferation".
The main purpose of the U.S. that fabricated the PSI is to legalize unilateral maritime transport interception and blockade against those countries which are not obedient to it and thus realize its strategy for hegemony.
The U.S. and the south Korean puppet military are making far-fetched assertions that the drill is aimed at "defence" and "non-proliferation" but in view of the scale of the forces and the performance of equipment involved in the drill, it is quite clear that they are extremely dangerous military exercises for bolstering up the maritime operation capability with Japan and south Korean puppets in the Korean Peninsula and for perfecting the overall embargo on the export and preparations for preemptive attack on a specified state in contingency.
The drill is being staged at a time when the U.S. and the south Korean puppets are going to stage the largest-ever "combined joint fire annihilation drill" in particular, which adds to the gravity and danger of the situation.
The drill is being staged in the place adjacent to the sensitive waters where disputes over the issue of dominium continue. This shows that the sea intercepting drill has a multi-purpose nature to put pressure on the neighboring countries of the DPRK.
The recent drill will be a catalyst for escalating the tension in Northeast Asia as it is being staged at a time when the U.S. has recently shipped various types of warships into the Straits of Taiwan under the pretext of "freedom of navigation" and NATO member states continue to take part in the U.S.-led joint military exercises in the Asia-Pacific.
As the U.S. is steadily expanding the multi-national military cooperation frameworks such as PSI, the possibility of catastrophic military conflict in Northeast Asia is turning into reality day by day.
All the facts clearly prove once again that the U.S. is chiefly to blame for heightening tension and increasing the danger of a nuclear war in the Korean Peninsula.
If the U.S. and its vassal forces attempt to impose any hostile blockade on the DPRK or infringe upon our inviolable sovereignty even a bit, the armed forces of the DPRK will regard it as a declaration of war against it.
The U.S. should stop at once the hostile acts of destabilizing the situation in the Korean Peninsula, bearing in mind that the ceaseless and dangerous war gambles being staged before our eyes will result in leading it to self-destruction.
Actualities of “Society of Well-being”
Recently, “Euronews”, citing the data released by Eurostat, reported that there has been a hike in inflation rate in the euro-zone in April.
If we look into a breakdown of the country, it was 6.9% in France, 7.6% in Germany, 8.8% in Italy. Among the countries of the euro-zone, the inflation rate of Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia reached a peak of 13.2%, 13.3% and 15% respectively.
The news continued that, despite the European Central Bank (ECB)’s effort to decrease the inflation rate to below 2%, inter alia, urging the countries in the euro-zone to enforce a policy of retrenchment, it is still in a state of doldrums.
This has caused an angry outcry not only from the countries in the euro-zone, but also from other European countries.
A high official of the Riksbank of Sweden, which has seen inflation rates soaring as high as 11.7% in January, said that there is a need to pursue stricter monetary policy in order to overcome the current inflation crisis.
The Swedish Minister for Finance also noted that the government is now faced with the most important task to curb the ever-increasing inflation rate in the face of continued worsening of economic situation.
Soaring inflation rate is leading to an unprecedented price hike.
In the UK, the overall price of food and non-alcoholic drinks rose by 19.1% in March which is the highest record since August, 1997.
In March, the Swedish “Matpriskollen” announced its findings of price investigation on over 44,000 food items. According to it, the overall prices of food in February increased by 2.5% compared to the previous month and 17.8% to the year before. The prices of baby food rose by 0.8% - a new high since 2015.
Meanwhile, the Belgian VRT reported that in January, the domestic prices for fish, bread, edible milk, dairy products and eggs increased by 15%, 18.3%, 28.2%, 24.6% and 34.3% respectively.
Such rise in prices inevitably spawns crimes committed to eke out a living.
France is seeing a dramatic increase in theft amongst the old, the young, and students. There is no stop in stealing food to satisfy immediate hunger pangs rather than cosmetics or clothing.
What is more surprising is the shift in the society’s view on crimes with an increasing number of people saying that such theft is understandable if they really have no money and not enough to eat.
Such changes in the people’s perception are bringing about social chaos and disorder.
Recently, Romania’s trade unions in the financial sector staged a demonstration calling for an increase in wages and improvement in working conditions.
The head of the national trade union confederation warned that unless the government takes substantial measures to increase wages, the doctors and nurses across the country would also stop their medical activities and take part in the protest.
In May, several Swiss trade unions reportedly made public that they would stage strikes and protests, revealing that the wage is not on a par with the price of commodities and service which increased by 2.6% this year because the companies only pursued their own interests by sacrificing their employees.
These are not all.
According to the Czech internet newspaper “Novinky”, the French 24TV, AFP, and other major media, thousands of people gathered at the central square of Prague in March and staged a demonstration holding the slogan “Czech fighting against poverty” in protest at the government that turns a blind eye to the residents' hardships owing to the price hike.
Prior to this, in February in France, tens of thousands of masses of all strata turned up in a demonstration against the authorities’ reform of the pension system. In the UK, too, where soaring inflation rates has worsened the people’s living conditions, nearly half a million people including university teachers and staff, and transport and public service workers staged a strike.
European civil organizations express their anger that more and more people are suffering economic distress unable to make ends meet owing to the unprecedented inflation and price hike while commenting that the responsibility lies in the government that turns a deaf ear to the people’s voices calling for improvement of living conditions.
These are the actualities of the “society of well-being”.

People’s Open-air Ice Rink
On the picturesque Taedong riverside in Pyongyang, the capital city of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, there is the People’s Open-air Ice Rink, boasting its unique architectural beauty.
Inaugurated in November 2012, its total floor space is 6 469 square metres, and the skating area is 1 800 square metres.
As a public service establishment, it is frequented by people all year round.
