Press Statement of DPRK Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Issued
Pyongyang, February 17 (KCNA) -- A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) issued the following press statement on Friday:
In January the United States failed to hold an open meeting at the UN Security Council aimed to take issue with the DPRK's exercise of the right to self-defence. However, it coercively convoked a UNSC meeting again in disregard of the opposition from not a few member states.
This shows that the U.S. moves to turn the UNSC with heavy responsibility for the international peace and security into a tool for the U.S. illegal hostile policy toward the DPRK have gone to the extremes that can not be allowed any longer.
This year the DPRK has concentrated all its efforts on implementing its own development plans and keeping peace and stability in the Korean peninsula and the region. It refrains itself from any special military action, except the regular schedule for bolstering up the defence capabilities due to be taken by a sovereign state.
But, the U.S. and south Korea have resorted to the worrying military demonstration from the outset of the year to seriously encroach upon the security interests of the DPRK.
In January the U.S. secretary of Defence visited south Korea to call for the use of nuclear weapons against the DPRK and the deployment of more strategic assets in the Korean peninsula. After that, the U.S. and south Korea staged three rounds of combined air drills in the sky above the West Sea of Korea, with involvement of Stealth fighters and strategic bombers. Recently, the U.S., Japan and south Korea agreed to further strengthen their triangular military cooperation against the DPRK.
The U.S. and south Korea plan to stage more than 20 rounds of various joint military drills within this year and put their scale and scope on the level of the largest-ever field mobile tactical exercises. This predicts that the situation in the Korean peninsula and the region will be again plunged into the grave vortex of escalating tension.
The reality goes to clearly prove that the U.S. and south Korea are the arch criminals deliberately disrupting the peace and stability of the Korean peninsula and the region.
This being a hard fact, the UNSC is groundlessly pulling up the DPRK, which has maintained patience and self-control to defuse the tension in the Korean peninsula, and is showing no expression of concern, far from deterring the U.S. seeking to turn the Korean peninsula into a theatre of war exercises and a military base.
It is very regretful that the international community has not made any due voice against the unfair behavior of the U.S. wantonly violating the purpose and principle of the UN Charter which stipulates sovereignty equality, respect for sovereignty and non-interference.
The UNSC member nations should look back with cool mind on the worrisome high-handed and arbitrary practices of the U.S., which works hard to reduce the UN into a tool serving for its foreign policy, pulling up the DPRK over the right to self-defence, in connection with the guarantee of genuine global peace and security and the security interests of their countries and regions.
We give a serious warning and strongly denounce the fact that the UNSC put the just right to self-defence of a sovereign state only on the table of its discussion in favor of the U.S., oblivious of its main principle for justice and impartiality.
The UNSC, regarding the immoderate moves of the U.S. and south Korea aggravating the regional situation as a fait accompli without discerning between right and wrong, has taken issue with the DPRK's exercise of its just and legitimate right to self-defence to deter such moves. This is an open expression of ignorance and infringement upon the sovereignty of the DPRK, and a hostile act that the DPRK is bound to take due counteraction.
The DPRK should have to make reactions since the U.S. and south Korea openly revealed their dangerous attempt to gain a long-term military edge in the Korean peninsula and the region.
If the UNSC continues to be inveigled by the U.S. as the latter wishes, the DPRK will be compelled to reconsider measures for additional actions, to say nothing of the category of normal military activities, in protest against the UNSC which is being reduced into a tool for the U.S. unilateral pressure on the DPRK.
If it is the U.S. option to show its muscle and counter everything with muscle, the same is true of the DPRK's option.
In case the U.S. and south Korea carry into practice their already-announced plan for military drills which the DPRK, with just apprehension and reason, regards as preparations for an aggression war, they will face unprecedentedly persistent and strong counteractions.
Revolutionary Philosophy of a Great Man – “Single-hearted Unity”
Today our people, together with the world progressive people, are significantly celebrating the 81st birth anniversary of Chairman Kim Jong Il as the greatest national holiday.
Greeting this day, our people are filled with boundless reverence and yearning for Chairman Kim Jong Il who put forward, for the first time in history, the revolutionary philosophy of single-hearted unity centered around the leader and opened the new era advancing with the might of single-hearted unity on this land.
Single-hearted unity is the revolutionary philosophy of Chairman Kim Jong Il.
He achieved the single-hearted unity of the leader, the Party and the people that can never be broken by anything. This is one of the greatest immortal exploits of the Chairman among all his accomplishments for the times, history and the cause of socialism.
He put forward single-hearted unity as the mainstay of revolution and embodied it in the revolutionary practice by succeeding the tradition of single-hearted unity pioneered from Paektu. Thanks to his exploits, our country could turn into one big family where all the people are firmly rallied around the Party and the leader.
Chairman Kim Jong Il clarified the characteristics and might of the single-hearted unity around the leader and set out the task and method for its consolidation and development in his immortal classical works such as “Let Us Advance Under the Unfurled Banner of Single-hearted Unity” and “Revolutionary Comradeship is the Basis of Single-hearted Unity and the Driving Force of Our Revolution”.
He achieved single-hearted unity of all people to ensure that the people respect their leader as their own father and believe in the Party as they believe in their own mother, forming one socio-political organism with the leader, the Party and the people that casts in one lot. This is how he defended socialism tiding over the hard time of the socialist forced march even under the complicated international political situations.
All the people grow a big flower garden of single-hearted unity being rallied firmly around their leader as one community, trusting in and following the leader regardless of peaceful and hard times. This is the true picture of our society.
One western pressman once said: “I can assure you that north Korea possesses a politico-ideological weapon which is more powerful than any atomic and hydrogen bomb. People have risen up believing in their own strength and are standing around the great leader like a fortress. What can break down such a fortress? No weapon will ever break the fortress of north Korea.”
The might of our single-hearted unity that no one can possess or imitate is being fully displayed in the struggle for achieving overall development of the socialist construction under the Party’s plan, trusting and following only respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
Even in the face of various challenges and grave hardships of history such as the global health crisis and natural disasters, historic miracles of protecting the destiny of the country and making this land reverberate with the hurrah for socialism could be created. We also have become a world military power stockpiled with absolute strength. All of these owe to the wise leadership of our Party and the might of the single-hearted unity firmly rallied around the Party.
Our people will further consolidate the single-hearted unity -the revolutionary heritage handed down by Chairman Kim Jong Il- and will definitely build a socialist power on this land by dint of its might.
Words From the Heart of A Medical Doctor
On the occasion of the meaningful Day of Shining Star, every person in our country recalls with deep emotion the legendary tales of love for humankind written by Chairman Kim Jong Il in every part of this land.
One year, Chairman Kim Jong Il came to hear a report that a builder working in a remote construction site at the northern tip of the country is at death’s door due to an unexpected accident. Upon hearing this report, he instructed earnestly that the relevant medical team should go to the field for treatment after preparing all necessary equipment and medicines, given that the condition of the patient is serious.
Thus, two medical doctors, two doctors, one nurse, six cartons of precious medicines including musk and antler, 10 liters of blood for transfusion, a kit for surgical operation and seven equipment for treatment had been urgently transported from Pyongyang and deployed to the field. And a special measure has been taken to dispatch one airplane post-haste for an exclusive purpose of assisting emergency treatment. One of the medical doctors who participated in the treatment at that time described his emotive feelings in his diary about the benevolent love and affection bestowed by Chairman Kim Jong Il for an ordinary worker. He wrote “5 return-trip fare of airplane, and the price of numerous precious medicines would not be paid even though the patients works for more than 200 years.”
Then, let’s look at the public health situation of the capitalist countries, the so-called advanced countries in medical science and technology.
A hospital in one of states of the U.S. witnessed an incident where over 40 discharged soldiers died after waiting a long time for medical examination. One of the prefectures of Japan also recorded a tragedy. One parturient woman had been denied the access to 10 hospitals for the reason of no money, and on her way to the eleventh hospital, she came to have an accident, resulting in the abortion on the street.
These examples prove that the public health devoid of the love and affection for the humankind can be nothing else than the means of earning money which have nothing to do with the health and life safety of the working masses.
Today, our people are extending big bows of gratitude to the Chairman who devoted his everything for building a genuine country for people where the humans are regarded as the most precious beings and the true love for mankind prevail.
His Life for Country and People
669 844 kilometres and over 14 290 units—these numbers indicate the total distance of field guidance trip Chairman Kim Jong Il made and the number of units he visited in the whole course of his leadership of the revolution.
Reflected in these numbers is the career of Chairman Kim Jong Il who made painstaking efforts, regarding it as the most pride of his life to work for the prosperity of the country and the people’s happiness.
One day in early February Juche 98 (2009), when the whole country was seething with a new revolutionary upsurge, he visited the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex.
He was very pleased to hear about a production line capable of turning out tens of thousands of fertilizer with much less electricity than the previous days. That day, having consulted how to build the production line with the officials of the complex and had the knotty problems solved, he said that if they do anything, they should do it in a bold way. And he added that an oxygen plant should be made by our own efforts and that he, however tired he may be, should go to the Ragwon Machine Complex again to kindle the flame in the complex.
The officials were surprised to hear him.
Ragwon was over 400 km away from Hungnam. It is a long distance which would take as much as 24 hours to arrive there even if they travel by car or express train.
Earlier in South Hamgyong Province, he gave field guidance at the then Tongbong Cooperative Farm in Hamju County, February 8 Vinalon Complex and Ryongsong Machine Complex. He then finished other pre-arranged works and asked officials to leave for the Ragwon Machine Complex that night.
He might have given them task by telephone. But the production of a large-sized oxygen plant was so important that he left for the complex. The officials of the complex were so moved to see Chairman Kim Jong Il who visited them by driving the car all night long without any rest. They answered him that they would make the oxygen plant without fail.
Kim Jong Il said that to produce the large-sized oxygen plant is the most important and militant task given to them by the Party as it believes in the working class of Ragwon, and that because of it, he came there from South Hamgyong Province in person and it was an immediate task facing North Phyongan Province.
In December Juche 100 (2011), the last year of his life, Kim Jong Il visited Hana Music Information Centre and Kwangbok Area Supermarket in spite of fatigue from excessive mental and physical burden.
At the supermarket, he said: Though it is cold today, I feel warm to see that the Kwangbok Area Supermarket is fully packed with goods. I feel happiest when I have done something for the good of the people. I find my happiness and pleasure in the people’s.
Everywhere in the country, be it city, rural village, factory and countryside, is associated with footprints of Chairman Kim Jong Il.
To work solely for the prosperity of the country and the people’s happiness!—this was his goal of life and the whole of his life.
Greeting February 16, birthday of Chairman Kim Jong Il, who continued the long journey of love for the country and the people throughout his life, the country is overflowing with the Korean people’s yearning for him.
