Flood-stricken Area under Rehabilitation
Typhoon-15 that swept most areas of the DPRK severely damaged the Komdok area.
Nation-wide
campaigns are being conducted to rehabilitate the areas of Komdok,
Ryongyang and Taehung mines that were severely damaged by the
unprecedented flood.
Party committees in the Komdok area are arousing the masses to turn out in campaigns for recovery from damage.
They give top priority to linking the cut railways and roads and stabilizing the living of the flood victims.
According
to data available, the typhoon ravaged more than 2 000 dwellings and
over 170 public buildings and claimed some human lives.
At
the Ryongyang Mine, Tonsan and Youth pits were completely submerged and
at the Taehung Youth Mine, a branch factory and several kilns were
destroyed.
At the Komdok Mining Complex pits were submerged or collapsed.
Excavators,
large blowers and other facilities, over 1 800 in all and different
kinds of pipes were buried or completely destroyed.
Communication
facilities were cut off and power lines cut or washed away, making it
impossible to provide industrial power, drinking water and illumination.
Over
1 320 000 square meters of roads were destroyed and railroad beds, iron
bridges and railroad tracks submerged or buried and many bridges washed
away in at least 870 places.
No yield is expected from over 700 hectares of farmland in Tanchon city.
Tremendous
are the losses caused by natural disasters in the Komdok area that
plays an important role in the economic development of the country and
the people's living.
In
defiance of all hardships the Korean people have turned out in
rehabilitation campaigns, full of confidence that they can recover from
the flood damage and bring about a better future under the wise guidance
of the Party.
Ministries and other national institutions and people across the country are rendering sincere assistance to the afflicted area.
