Press Statement of DPRK Permanent Mission to UN

Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The Permanent Mission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to the United Nations on Aug. 3 released the following press statement regarding the anti-DPRK confrontational clamor by the United States and some servile States Parties with unwarranted accusations against the DPRK at the 10th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT):

A long time ago, the DPRK pulled out of the NPT through the legitimate procedure under the relevant article stipulated in the NPT. Accordingly, nobody has the right or justification to accuse the DPRK, a nuclear possessing state outside the NPT, of its exercise of the right to self-defense.

Today, the mastermind that undermines the foundation of the non-proliferation regime is none other than the United States which is hell-bent on nuclear threats and blackmail against sovereign states and even does not hesitate nuclear proliferation with a view to realizing its strategy of hegemony in flagrant infringement upon and violation of the treaty anchored on the main pillars of nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation and peaceful use of atomic power.

The United States itself would not deny the fact that it has transferred the technology of a nuclear-powered submarine to Australia and connived at and patronized Israel's possession of nuclear weapons.

It is the peak of busy blaming that the United States alleges somebody's "nuclear threats" given the fact that it is the kingpin of nuclear proliferation which has historically and systematically violated its obligations under the treaty one article after another and disrupted international peace and regional security.

In order to genuinely ensure international peace and security, it is imperative to put in the dock of an international court and bring to justice the United States hell-bent on high-handedness and arbitrary practice by wielding a nuclear club.

We will never tolerate any attempt by the U.S. and its servile forces to groundlessly accuse our State and encroach upon our sovereign rights and national interests.

No Statute of Limitations for Crimes against Humanity

Recently, the criminal acts against humanity committed in Afghanistan by the U.S. and its allies are brought to light one after another, much to the consternation and resentment of the international society.

The world people were aghast at the verdict delivered by the U.S. in June after nearly-10-month-long investigation into the U.S. pilots. According to the verdict, the pilots were cleared from the case of killing two Afghans by throwing them into the air out of the plane at its take-off when the U.S. troops withdrew from Afghanistan in August last year.

Before this shock wave calmed down, BBC revealed a fact in July that the U.K. soldiers stationed in Afghanistan, who launched a “competition of killing” the prisoners of war and civilians, destroyed evidences to cover up their crime.

It is a well-known fact that the U.S. and the Western countries are committing flagrant violations of human rights including genocide of civilians all across the world.

The world people still vividly remember the fact that in March 2019, the U.S. armed forces who conducted air raids on a village in Syria, massacring tens of civilians including women and children, bulldozed the spot to cover up their atrocities.

Since the “9.11 terrorist attack”, the U.S. has conducted over 90,000 indiscriminate air raids in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and other countries, mercilessly killing more than 48,000 innocent civilians including women and children.

According to data, since 2001, the case of civilian massacre by the U.S. armed forces has been recorded to occur once nearly every week, and over 800,000 were killed and millions of refugees have been made in the world by the frenzied war moves of the U.S.

The U.S. established the Guantanamo Bay detention facility and other secret camps all across the world out of its intention to inflict barbarous torture upon innocent people after illegally detaining them. They have become a hotbed of the gravest crimes of human rights violation to such an extent that reminds us of the concentration camp of Nazis during the Second World War.

The U.K. armed forces also did not hesitate to commit all sorts of atrocious crimes against many ordinary citizens of Iraq from 2003 to 2008. That includes maltreatment, detention, collective assault, sexual violence and slaughter that endanger human’s life and infringe upon human’s dignity.

Above-mentioned facts clearly show that the U.S. and the West are committing heinous human rights violations, besetting the innocent peaceful residents with indescribable pain and incurable wound under the signboard of “democracy” and “protection of human rights”.

There cannot be statute of limitations for crimes against humanity.

The U.S. and the West should bear in mind that the day of reckoning will surly come when they have to pay dearly for their war crimes.

Brass Vessel

Brass vessel is one of the vessels that the Korean people have widely used from olden times.

Different from other metals, brass does no harm to human body, and the vessel made from it is superior to china and earthen vessels in terms of aesthetic beauty and solidity.

First of all, brass has no harmful effect on human body; the wound afflicted by brass does not fester but heals up quickly; when it reacts with poisoned material, it soon turns deep blue, telling that the material is poisoned.

It is said that washing hands and feet with water in a brass basin is effective in treating and preventing various skin diseases.

Having already learned these characteristics and superiorities of brass, Koreans have long made a variety of food vessels, cooking tools and daily necessities with it.

In the period of the feudal Joson dynasty (1392–1910), brass vessels developed while keeping their peculiar characteristics; a set of rice bowl, soup bowl and various dish bowls was formed, and each family had over three sets composed of five, seven and nine bowls.

And it was regarded as a custom to serve foods in brass vessels at family ceremonies including weddings and memorial services.

Today, the Okryu and Chongnyu restaurants in Pyongyang serve the Pyongyang cold noodles in such vessels, drawing many people with national flavour.
