Press Statement of Spokesperson for DPRK Foreign Ministry Issued

Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) issued the following press statement on Thursday:

The military and political situation in the Korean peninsula and the region has reached an extreme red-line due to the reckless military confrontational maneuvers and hostile acts of the U.S. and its vassal forces.

The U.S. is now working hard to "demonize" the DPRK, spreading again all sorts of rumors. Meanwhile, it, together with its vassal forces, is intensifying the full-scale offensive for putting pressure on the DPRK in all aspects including "human rights", sanctions and military affairs.

In particular, the U.S. is going to ignite an all-out showdown with the DPRK through continued combined drills whose scale and scope are largely extended, including a "drill for operating extended deterrence means" and the largest-ever field mobile live shell firing drill simulating the use of nuclear weapons, together with south Korea from February.

During his visit to south Korea on Jan. 31, the U.S. secretary of Defense openly declared that the U.S. would deploy more strategic assets such as the fifth generation stealth fighters and nuclear carriers, unhesitatingly talking about the use of nuclear weapons against the DPRK. This is a vivid expression of the U.S. dangerous scenario which will result in turning the Korean peninsula into a huge war magazine and a more critical war zone.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK makes clear once again our principled stand on the U.S. in order to cope with its evermore pronounced, heinous anti-DPRK policy and dangerous military move.

First, the DPRK will take the toughest reaction to any military attempt of the U.S., on the principle of "nuke for nuke and an all-out confrontation for an all-out confrontation!"

We do not react to every ill-boding movement shown by the U.S. under the signboard of "offer of extended deterrence" and "strengthened alliance", but this is by no means that we ignore or take no note of.

We are seeing through the true intention of the U.S.

The DPRK has a clear counteraction strategy capable of coping with any short- and long-term scenarios attempted by the U.S. and its vassal forces, and will strongly control the present and future potential challenges with the most overwhelming nuclear force.

If the U.S. continues to introduce strategic assets into the Korean peninsula and its surrounding area, the DPRK will make clearer its relevant deterring activities without fail according to their nature.

Second, the DPRK is not interested in any contact or dialogue with the U.S. as long as the latter persists in its hostile policy and confrontational line.

The U.S. goes so shameless as to seek to gain time by touting dialogue with the DPRK under a deceptive signboard that it has no intent to be hostile toward the DPRK, while pursuing the most heinous hostile policy towards the DPRK.

The escalating tension in the Korean peninsula and the region is entirely attributable to the hostile policy of the U.S. forcing the DPRK to disarm itself unilaterally through sanctions and military pressure and pursuing the military expansion of its allies.

The decades-long history of DPRK-U.S. confrontation shows that the DPRK should deal with the U.S. imperialists by force only as they are dreaming of disarming it and bringing down its social system with the "end" of the DPRK set as a goal of their state administration.

The more dangerous the U.S. threat to the DPRK gets, the stronger backfire the U.S. will face in direct proportion to it.

The DPRK will defend peace and security of the Korean peninsula and the region in a responsible manner with powerful deterrent until the U.S. and its vassal forces' hostile policy and military threat have been definitely rooted out.

“Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights” in Seoul Must Be Abolished at Once

In a recent interview with VOA, the so-called head of “the office of the high commissioner for human rights” in Seoul overtly said that the main mission of their office is “monitoring, analyzing and documenting human rights violation in north Korea” and “searching for accountability”.

As for the “the office of the high commissioner for human rights” in Seoul, it is an out-and-out tool for executing U.S. hostile policy against DPRK and works as an instrument for “human rights” campaign against the DPRK. It has nothing to do with the work to protect and promote human rights in every sense of the word.

The office is advertising that it was established under the “resolution” of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) but it is no more than a smokescreen to cover up its true colors.

The DPRK categorically rejected all of the fabricated documents including the anti-DPRK “human rights resolution” railroaded at the 25th session of UNHRC in March 2014 as an outcome of vicious hostile policy of the U.S. And it has never recognized a mechanism or an office cooked up by these documents.

Even the Western media, to say nothing of many countries, condemned it as “a deceitful means for internal interference” rigged up out of extreme prejudice and sinister political intention, and they remain dead set against its establishment which will worsen the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

The U.S. enticed south Korea to establish such a plot-breeding organization in Seoul. And the spokesperson for the U.S. State Department went on the stage saying nonsensical remarks that he expresses “special thanks” and his “willingness to render full support”. This serves as positive proof that the “the office of the high commissioner for human rights” in Seoul is none other than the “office of the U.S.”

After having sprouted like a poisonous mushroom on a soil notorious for flagrant human rights violation, this office did nothing but took the lead in “human rights” scheme aimed at tarnishing the external image of our country at the instigation of the U.S.

With the U.S. pulling strings behind the curtain, this plot-breeding house also assumes full responsibility for drafting all kinds of anti-DPRK “human rights reports” issued at international human rights arena and for directing and performing the farce behind the signboard of “forum” and “seminar”.

It is really a matter for great regret that this office – a mere tool for the sinister political purpose of the hostile forces – is misusing the sacred name of the UN.

No matter how hard the U.S. and other hostile forces try to tarnish the DPRK’s image by mobilizing even the plot-breeding tools like “the office of the high commissioner for human rights” in Seoul, they can never conceal the reality of the DPRK where entire people live in harmony with noble virtue and affection, where human rights are fully ensured on an institutional, legal and practical basis.

The United Nations, which regards impartiality, objectivity and strict neutrality as its acting principles, must no longer tolerate the existence of such a plot-breeding organization as the “the office of the high commissioner for human rights” in Seoul, and it should take a step to abolish it at once.

Australia Has no Qualification to Talk About Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament

A few days ago, the Australian foreign minister Penny Wong contributed an article to British newspaper “Guardian” as it marks 50 years since Australia ratified the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

The article said that Australia, since joining the NPT, has been an example to the world on non-proliferation and disarmament and continued as follows:

“Some have tried to argue that our ambition to acquire nuclear-powered submarines under our trilateral AUKUS partnership risks undermining our exemplary non-proliferation credentials. That assertion misses a crucial fact” the submarines we propose to acquire are nuclear-powered, not nuclear-armed. Other countries in the Indo-Pacific have been operating nuclear-powered submarines for decades.”

The article also tried to justify its ambition to possess nuclear-powered submarines. It quotes: “In 2022, North Korea conducted more than 60 ballistic missile launches. Five Chinese ballistic missiles were reported to have fallen in Japan’s exclusive economic zones. Russia’s reckless and desperate threats to unleash nuclear warfare still loom large, while Iran refuses to comply with its non-proliferation obligations.”

It is a well-known fact that Australia has not been restricted in its open act of nuclear proliferation based on its agreement with the US and the UK on transfer of technology to build nuclear-powered submarines including that of weapon-grade nuclear material after AUKUS, the product of “new cold war”, was formed on September 15, 2021.

It is a well-known fact.

Recently, it is committed to beefing up its military build-up. It is now pushing ahead with the work to conclude a contract to purchase one billion USD’ worth mines on a plea of “threats” from somebody.

This has made Australia to be “an example to the world” in breaking global non-proliferation regime and speeding up arms-buildup in the region and the rest of the world. Thus it has become an object of criticism and concern from most of the countries including its neighbors, going beyond some countries.

Far from repenting of its perilous and wrong actions, the Australian foreign minister justified them in every possible way. This stands as an intolerable mockery of the international community.

In particular, he picked on such independent states as China, Russia, Iran and the DPRK. These countries, without exception, are the ones that the U.S. attempts to curb their growth by every possible means in a bid to isolate and weaken them, maintaining the highest level of hostility and vigilance. This constitutes an act of self-explaining to the whole world Australia’s true colors as a storming party and stooge of the U.S. for fulfilling its foreign strategy.

The U.S. had officially announced the nuclear-arming of its troops stationed in south Korea in July 1957, and deployed 1,000 nuclear weapons in the 1970s and 1,720 nuclear weapons in the 1980s. Thus, the whole territory of south Korea has turned into the largest nuclear arsenal in the Far East.

Moreover, after issuing the “nuclear posture review” in 2002 where it designated the DPRK as the top priority target of its nuclear attack, it has deployed various kinds of nuclear strike means in south Korea on a regular basis, thereby turning the Korean peninsula into the largest theatre of thermonuclear war in the world.

Not content with its regular dispatch of warships and planes to the vicinity of the Korean peninsula since 2018, Australia has even dispatched its tanker plane to participate in the largest-ever U.S.-south Korea joint air drill “Vigilant Storm” from October 31 to November 5, 2022. It is quite preposterous for Australia, which directly took part in usurping our state’s sacred dignity and sovereignty, to talk this and that about our exercise of right to self-defense.

Australia, a member of the “AUKUS” representing its first letter, is running high fever in acquiring nuclear-powered submarines from the U.S. and the UK.

It is the general view of the fair international media that Australia, together with the U.S. and the UK, is the main culprit in causing instability of the region and the world.

It would be better for Australia to bear in mind that if it advances sophistry that can work with nobody, it will only be faced with harsher rejection and isolation from the international community.

“Record-Breaking” Gun-Related Crimes in U.S.

Gun-related crimes in the U.S. may beat a world record.

Not long ago, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration announced that over 6, 540 guns were detected among airplane passengers in the year 2022 alone.

This is a 10% increase compared to an all-time record of 5,970 guns in 2021, “breaking” a “new record” for two consecutive years.

According to the Administration’s reports, some passengers were detected trying to board planes with pistols hidden inside a live chicken or semiautomatic rifle parts which were dissembled and concealed in peanut butter.

What’s more surprising is the fact that 88% of the detected guns were found fully loaded.

Meanwhile, an American website posted that, as of December 26, 2022, 6,021 juveniles were killed or injured owing to gun-related crimes, which is an all-time high since the website started keeping statistics after its launch.

It said that gun-related crimes in the year 2022 claimed the lives of 1,629 juveniles among which 306 were under 11.

The U.S. Centres for Disease Control (CDC) also published a report and deplored the human rights situation in the U.S. which is getting ever more deteriorated owing to gun-related crimes. The report stated that the number of gun-related murder cases in the U.S. increased by 8% in 2020-2021 which was the highest record since the early 1990s.

Likewise, the U.S. has “maintained” its position as the “gun-related crime champion” last year by breaking “records” of all gun-related crimes.

Entering this year, the gun-related crimes in the U.S. continues to witness the explosive growth.

33 cases of gun-related crimes occurred so far. This means that an average of one or two gun-related crimes occurred per day.

On January 16, gang members shot six people to death including a 10-month old infant in California. This made the U.S. society tremble with fear and apprehension from the very beginning of the new year.

On January 21, even before the after-effects of this incident could die out, a 72-year-old unidentified guy sprayed bullets at people, killing 11 and injuring 10. Including this incident, three shooting sprees occurred in three consecutive days in California.

These are harbingers of another “record-breaker” by the U.S. for gun-related crimes this year.

An amendment to the Gun Control Law was adopted in June last year and Biden cries out for “condemnation” and “preventing recurrence” whenever shooting incidents happen. But they are all no more than hypocrisy to deceive its people.

The U.S., mentioning about “human rights” of other countries, is indeed an “Â’Q” of the 21st century who is oblivious of its own desperate position, not being able to ensure its people’s rights to life, the most fundamental and basic human rights.

Future of the Bereaved Children is in Bloom Under Benevolent Bosom

February 1st is a meaningful day. It marks the 6th anniversary of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un’s visit to the newly-built Pyongyang Primary School for Orphans where he left traces of love.

The noble view of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un on posterity and future goes down forever in Pyongyang Primary School for Orphans. He has devoted all of his warm love and affection to our bereaved children so that they grow up in an upright, spirited and cheerful way without a heavy heart.

Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who spares nothing for the upbringing of the posterity proposed establishing the school in person and gave guidance on its blueprint several times. He provided solutions for each and every one of the issues arising in its construction to ensure that the school be built magnificently in a short period of time to meet the requirements of the new century.

Upon hearing the report that the school was completed, he was immensely rejoiced and visited it even though he was heavily preoccupied with the work to take care of lots of state affairs.

He looked around with satisfaction music and dance classroom, Children’s Union meeting room, nature classroom and bedroom, dining room, barbershop and infirmary in the dormitory as well as the school buildings which were built on multi-functional and IT basis and, in which, all the spaces in the corridor were distinctively fixed up as the halls of knowledge and commonsense. He also personally studied children in class.

He gave a valuable teaching to be served as a guideline in raising overall standard of education in our country including higher education by raising the standard of primary education. He also had a photo session with the children in place of their fathers that would be handed down forever in history.

Indeed, his tender loving care permeates each and every corner of the school, be it a classroom or teaching aids and furnishings, which keeps the harmony of a good educational environment and living condition.

There are many countries in the world. And, from the olden times, there is a saying that parents have a heavy load to raise one child. But nowhere in the world can be found such a leader as that of our country who concerns himself with the work to care for education and life of the bereaved children with fatherly affection and love.

That is why foreigners who visited the Pyongyang Primary School for Orphans spoke out their minds that they were greatly moved by love and care for the bereaved children being shown by Kim Jong Un, President of the State Affairs. They said that they came to have a clear understanding of the DPRK’s policy where the state provides for education and cultivation as well as living conditions for the orphans; they had been to many educational institutions, but they had never seen such a school as this one which provides orphans with such excellent learning and living conditions; they got a better knowledge of what a deep attention the Party and the government of the DPRK is showing to the issue of education of the young generation, the bereaved children in particular.

Indeed, thanks to the benevolent embrace of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who puts the work for the posterity as the foremost task of the Party and the state and brings into bloom the bright future of the children of the whole country, our children’s bright and cheerful laughter and songs will reverberate far and wide as the trumpet of advance and victory of our vibrant fatherland.
