Asia-Pacific Is Not North Atlantic: Researcher of Int'l Politics Study Society

Pyongyang, June 29 (KCNA) -- Kim Hyo Myong, a researcher of the Society for International Politics Study, on Wednesday issued an article titled "Asia-Pacific Is Not North Atlantic".

The full text of the article is as follows:

War flame ignited in Eastern Europe is flaring up to the Asia-Pacific region.

In April, the chairman of the military committee of NATO visited south Korea and Japan to discuss the strengthening of military cooperation. Moreover, the authorities of south Korea and Japan are going to participate in NATO Summit in Spain for the first time in history.

NATO is responsible for bringing a disaster to Eastern Europe. New strategic concept to be adopted in the coming NATO Summit includes the opposition to China. The U.S. and south Korea are becoming all the more undisguised in their military moves against us on the Korean peninsula and its vicinity. All things considered, there is an ominous sign that dark waves of the North Atlantic will break the silence of the Pacific sooner or later.

NATO is nothing but a perpetrator of the U.S. hegemonic strategy. It is simply a tool for local invasion.

NATO was established with a so-called mandate to defend Europe. The only "contribution" it has made to world peace and security is the devastation of sovereign states, massacre of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians and generation of refugees numbering millions with its unlawful wars of aggression in Europe, Middle-East and Africa, i.e. Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.

It does not need to go any further. The main culprit of current sorry plight of Europe is also none other than the U.S. for it sowed dissension, discord, confrontation and conflict there through its "eastward advance" in systematic defiance of security concerns of Russia.

After transforming the Western Hemisphere into the unstable international region of dispute, NATO is turning its sinister eyes to the far-off Eastern Hemisphere this time.

Some days ago, the U.S. government clarified its stand that south Korea, though it is not a NATO member, is an important companion of individual allies of NATO and that what the U.S. seeks to uphold in the Indo-Pacific with its south Korea allies, in what NATO seeks to uphold in Europe, is precisely the same thing.

This does mean that the U.S. would seek the hegemony in Asia with south Korea as cannon fodder in the same way as it pursues the "American-style international order" at the cost of European countries.

Crystal clear is NATO's purpose of seeking justification for its existence in Asia-Pacific region.

The ulterior purpose of the U.S.-led NATO is to make confrontational alliances such as "AUKUS" and "Quad" in Asia-Pacific region under the pretext of "restoration of democracy" and "strengthening of alliance" and link them to NATO in one chain so as to form trans-pacific encirclement ring aimed at containing and isolating China.

What is a sight to see is the fact that the south Korean authorities are volunteering to play the role of point man and bullet shield for "Eastern Crusade" by NATO.

South Korean authority may have miscalculated that it can get praise from the U.S., its master and address its security concern if it comes under the umbrella of NATO. But it turned out that they have put their feet deep into the pit of fire.

South Korean authority has now shaken dark hands with NATO, a root cause of disaster. It will have to suffer from the most painful and severe security crisis and long-term incurable aftereffect of security unrest.

Member states of NATO, blindly following the U.S., must bear in mind that the Pacific is not so peaceful as they see it.

It only concerns me much how NATO, hardly able to take care of even its "western domain", would cope with all storms that will blow over in the east.

Asia-Pacific countries, regarded by NATO as adversaries and strategic competitors, are not weaker than others in their wills and abilities to defend themselves from interference and aggression of outside forces.

It is only a matter of time before "NATO" ship which changed its course from the North Atlantic to the Asia-Pacific meets the fate of shipwreck.

FATF Censured for Following U.S. Hostile Policy toward DPRK

Pyongyang, June 30 (KCNA) -- Ri Jong Chol, section chief of the National Coordination Committee of the DPRK for Anti-money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism on Thursday made public an article titled "The Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering should not follow the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK".

The full text of the article is as follows:

The Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF) held its annual meeting in Germany from June 14 to 17, where the DPRK was designated as a "high-risk jurisdiction subject to a call for action" again.

This is an unjust behavior of the organization overtly following the anti-DPRK policy of the U.S. which tries to disgrace the image of the DPRK and deprive it of the right to normal development.

As known, the organization has run a racket of including the DPRK in the list of "high-risk jurisdiction subject to a call for action" just like an annual event since it designated the DPRK as an "extremely dangerous state threatening the international financial system" in 2011, kowtowing to the U.S. which blames the DPRK without any reason for the "suspicion of money laundering".

It is a shameful act of giving up the mission of an international organization entitled to ensure a sound and integral order of the international financial system and preserve impartiality.

The DPRK has nothing to do with all kinds of crimes including money laundering and sponsor of terrorism.

But as the organization repeatedly requested the DPRK to exchange opinions and "resolve mutual concerns" via direct contact, the DPRK has held direct dialogues with the organization since 2013 to iron out its incomprehension and prove before the international community the just stand of the DPRK.

Despite the interference of the U.S. and other countries displeased with the cooperation between the DPRK and the organization, the DPRK has deepened the mutual understandings with the member states and fulfilled its commitment to the international organization.

This is proved by the fact that the DPRK joined the Asia-Pacific Group on Money Laundering as an observer in July 2014 and revised and supplemented the domestic law on anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism.

The DPRK also signed the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and strengthened the state mechanism for its implementation.

Nonetheless, the FATF has constantly designated the DPRK as a "high-risk jurisdiction subject to a call for action", ignoring the latter's sincere efforts but submitting to the U.S. pressure.

The U.S. openly reveals its sordid intention to arrest the independent development of the DPRK by involving an international organization in its moves to stifle the DPRK.

In 2016, the U.S. forced member states to impose financial sanctions on the DPRK according to the anti-DPRK "sanctions resolution" of the United Nations Security Council under the signboard of "countering the financing of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction". And in 2018 when the DPRK directed all its efforts to socialist economic construction, it put pressure on the FATF to take measures against the DPRK, blaming the country for having "the possibility of money laundering and financing terrorism".

This is nothing but a barbaric and impudent behavior peculiar to the U.S.

The organization should give a definite answer if it is really trying to protect the international financial system by following such moves of the U.S., which tries to isolate the dignified DPRK in the international community and abuse the international financial system for realizing its wild ambition for hegemony.

In fact, it is none other than the U.S. that should be included in the list of "high-risk jurisdiction subject to a call for action" first of all.

Today, the U.S. is the main culprit of illegal money laundering, the chieftain of world illegal dealings, the ring leader of international terrorism and the chief criminal state of destroying peace and stability as it has supplied money and lethal equipment to terrorists and anti-government organizations across the world, even training them and inciting them to violence and homicide.

The FATF has to examine itself seriously from the impartial and objective viewpoint.

The DPRK remains unchanged in its stand to contribute to the activities of the organization for combating money-laundering and financing of terrorism and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

I hope that the true cooperative relations with the organization will recover, and advise the FATF not to follow the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK, in this viewpoint.

Sinister Aim of Joint Military Exercises Disclosed

Pyongyang, June 29 (KCNA) -- The United States tries to stage Pacific Dragon joint military exercises together with Japan, south Korea and others in Hawaii within August.

The Pacific Dragon exercises had been staged behind closed doors, in most cases, under the signboard of "mastering the ability of detecting and tracking ballistic missiles" by the U.S. with involvement of Japan and south Korea.

However, the military top brass of the U.S., Japan and south Korea held a meeting on June 11, where they decided to stage the exercises overtly and regularly to further strengthen their security cooperation. They also decided to open to the public the period and contents of this year's Pacific Dragon exercises in advance as well as the whole course of the exercises.

Moreover, the U.S. decided to conduct the U.S.-Japan-south Korea missile-warning drill, which has been staged intermittently so far, once in a quarter regularly and overtly.

This shows that the U.S. is sticking to the scheme for militarily grasping Japan and south Korea in a more undisguised and frantic manner.

The U.S. is getting hell-bent on the military cooperation with its stooges in disregard of the primary security demand and concern by Asia-pacific countries. It aims at containing the rivals such as China and Russia and gratifying the wild ambition for world domination as well as perfecting the preparations for aggression on the DPRK by realizing the U.S.-Japan-south Korea military alliance, a long-cherished desire of the U.S.

Just after the Second World War, the U.S. regarded the U.S.-Japan-south Korea triangular military alliance as the core element of its Asia strategy and built its framework through the conclusion of the U.S.-Japan Security Pact and the U.S.-south Korea "mutual defense treaty". And it had propelled the military cooperation between Japan and south Korea to form the tripartite military alliance.

Dulles, former U.S. Secretary of State, claimed before that the separate bilateral treaties between Japan and the U.S., between Taiwan and the U.S. and between south Korea and the U.S. should be put together in any form. The fact goes to prove that the U.S. had long taken pains for the formation of the tripartite military alliance.

Such design of the U.S. has become more undisguised, occasioned by the inauguration of Kishida regime in Japan, which openly calls for increasing the defense spending and possessing the "capability to attack enemy bases", and the assumption to power of the pro-U.S. and pro-Japanese conservative forces in south Korea, which advocate the confrontation with the DPRK.

It can be proved by the recent moves of the U.S. which vociferates stronger than ever before about normal implementation of the Japan-south Korea military intelligence agreement, talking about the U.S.-Japan-south Korea security cooperation.

The scheme for formation of the U.S.-Japan-south Korea military alliance, motivated by Japan's and south Korea's kowtowing to the U.S., is evidently a dangerous prelude to the creation of "Asian version of NATO".

The U.S. moves for establishing a unilateral international order based on its value concept lead to the onset of "new Cold War" era in the Asia-pacific region and the formation of acute confrontation structure of strength for strength.

The reckless military moves of the U.S. will not escape the curse and rejection of the international community.

China and other countries in the region denounce such moves of the U.S. as an overbold demonstration of muscle and a dangerous attempt to destroy the balance of power.

The escalation of tension in the Asia-pacific region incurred by the imprudent military provocations of the U.S. will primarily have a negative impact on the situation of the Korean Peninsula.

As the U.S. specially defined the DPRK as a "major threat destabilizing the region" for no ground while mapping out Indo-pacific strategy aimed at containing China, the joint military exercises staged by the U.S., Japan and south Korea in the Asia-pacific region can be said to target the DPRK in the first instant.

Conservative media of south Korea are busy building up public opinion that the aim of the Pacific Dragon exercises is to cope with "ballistic missile threat" of the DPRK. This shows that the joint military exercises are clearly targeting the DPRK and that the U.S. hostile policy to stifle the DPRK has entered a more dangerous phase.

The reality urgently urges the DPRK to take every possible measure for bolstering up its military capability for defending the country's sovereignty and the people's well-being and awakens the countries in the Asia-pacific region.

The reckless military confrontation moves of the U.S. and its vassal forces becoming pronounced in the Asia-pacific region will only bring about catastrophic consequences of self-destruction.

U.S. Urged Not to Forget Its Defeat in Korean War

Pyongyang, June 29 (KCNA) -- On June 25, 1950 the U.S. ignited a premeditated war against the DPRK out of its wild ambition for occupying the whole Korea and making it a bridgehead for aggression on the rest of the Asian continent.

At first, the U.S. calculated that it could occupy the young DPRK easily by dint of its numerical and technical superiority.

The U.S. mobilized for the Korean War one third of its ground force, one fifth of its air force, most of its Pacific Fleet and over two million troops, including those from its 15 satellite countries, the south Korean army and the Japanese militarists. During the war the U.S. spent 165 billion US dollars as its military expenditure and used more than 73 million tons of war supplies, the amount of which was 11 times as great as the one it had used in the Pacific War.

At that time the number of troops and military hardware of the two-year-old DPRK was incomparably smaller than of the U.S.

However, the outcome of the war was contrary to expectations. The U.S. suffered tremendous human and material loss in the three-year-long Korean War.

During the war, 1 567 128 enemy troops were killed and captured. Out of them, 405 498 were the U.S. troops.

In the three-year-long war, the U.S. lost 12 224 airplanes, 3 255 tanks and armored cars, 13 350 motor vehicles, 564 warships and other vessels, 7 695 artillery pieces of various kinds, over 925 150 small arms, etc.

Such loss was 2.3 times as big as the one it had suffered in the four-year Pacific War.

The US News and World Report said that the loss suffered by the U.S. armed forces in the Korean War was over two times as great as the total loss they had suffered in the past five big wars such as the War of Independence, the war in 1812, the Mexican-American War, the Spanish-American War and the Philippine-American War.

Those in the American ruling quarters traded insults, shifting the responsibility for the great loss and humiliating defeat.

MacArthur, who had been called a "famous veteran commander", was dismissed after being held accountable for the shameful defeat on the war front. Ridgway, who took the post of commander of the U.S. forces in the Far East and commander of the "UN Forces" instead of him, was also dismissed for the defeat. Clark, who succeeded them and employed all means and methods to halt the decline, also disgraced himself at last by signing the armistice agreement, a document of surrender.

Loud lamentations about the defeat in the Korean War were heard in the U.S. after the conclusion of the armistice agreement.

MacArthur, then U.S. Secretary of Defense Marshall and then Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Bradley all lamented the disgraceful defeat unprecedented in the American history, saying that the U.S. was not strong enough and the Korean War was fought at the wrong time, in the wrong place and with the wrong enemy."

The U.S. had allegedly suffered no defeat in over 110 wars for 180 odd years since its foundation. But such "myth of mightiness" was utterly broken in the Korean War.

The Korean War in the 1950s, fought between the U.S. which boasted of the world's strongest and the young DPRK, can be called a "showdown between A-bomb and rifle".

The secret of the DPRK's victory in this confrontation lies in the Juche-oriented military idea, superb strategy and tactics and outstanding commanding art of the iron-willed brilliant commander, President Kim Il Sung, and in the indomitable fighting spirit of the Korean People's Army and all the people of the DPRK who bravely fought with the death-defying will against the aggressors, single-mindedly united around him.

Today, the DPRK has secured the military and technical edge and invincible war deterrent capable of annihilating any forces attempting a military confrontation with it at a blow under the wise leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, supreme commander of the DPRK armed forces and ever-victorious iron-willed brilliant commander.

If the U.S. dares provoke the DPRK through reckless acts, oblivious of its defeat in the Korean War in the 1950s, it will inevitably face the worst-ever catastrophe.

U.S. Should Face Justice for its Crimes of War and Massacre

The U.S. is facing criticism from the international society as it is issuing an annual report on “human rights situation” of other countries.

This year, too, the U.S.is said to have contained in its report an analysis of and advice to human rights situations of more than 200 countries, according to American-style “democracy” and “values”.

If so, we come to this question. Is the U.S. qualified to do so even though it abuses human right standard and jurisdiction which were not codified in any law, and proclaims itself as “human rights judge of the world”?

The answer to this question can be found easily in just a few facts which tell the U.S. crimes of war and massacre among the numerous U.S. criminal human rights record.

An American historian pointed out that the history of the U.S. is full of war and expansion, and a war is Americans’ way of life. He also said that it was only 16 years when there was no war in its 240-year-long history. Among 248 wars waged between 1945 and 2001, 201 wars were ignited by the U.S. One of them is the Korean War which broke out on June 25, 1950.

During the 3-year-long Korean War, the U.S. had committed crimes of slaughtering 2.47millions of innocent civilians. And it occupied south Korea illegally and has inflicted miseries and pains of national division on our nation for more than half a century.

As we entered the 21st century, the U.S. killed more than 800,000 people by launching “counter-terrorism”. In consequence, as many as tens of millions of refugees were made.

The U.S. used not only bloody wars, but also an indirect war weapon termed economic “sanctions” against sovereign states, depriving the countless people of their rights to life and existence.

Owing to the U.S. sanctions, 1 million innocent people lost their lives in Iraq from 1991 to 2003, and a tragic incident occurred in Venezuela where 40,000 people were killed in 2018.

It is a universally recognized principle of the international law to criminalize and punish war provocation and massacre. There also exist not a few international treaties that stipulate thereon.

Sanctions against sovereign countries are also condemned as massacre by the international society as they are clear violation of international law such as the UN Charter and human rights conventions. Recently, resolutions were adopted in the international arena, including UNGA and UNHRC, calling for a withdrawal of the coercive and unilateral U.S. sanctions.

However, like a guilty party filing a lawsuit first, the U.S. poses as a “judge” to dispute with other countries over their human rights issues. This is a disgrace to and a mockery of the international society.

There is no legal basis stipulating that the American “democracy” and “values” could be applied as international human rights standard. Moreover, the U.S. has never been qualified for a “human rights judge of the world”.

The U.S. should examine itself before the international society not as a “human rights judge” but as a criminal of war and massacre, and it should be brought to justice of the world.
