Press Statement of DPRK Vice Foreign Minister

Pyongyang, August 15 (KCNA) -- Kim Son Gyong, vice-minister for International Organizations of the Foreign Ministry of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), issued the following press statement on August 15:

The piteous and disgraceful appearance of the U.S., put to disadvantage in power, diplomacy and morality in the confrontation with the DPRK, is being fully shown again at the UN Security Council.

The U.S. called for an open meeting of the UNSC to discuss the "human rights issue" of the DPRK by instigating its followers such as Japan and Albania. This nakedly reveals the despicable hostile features of the U.S. steeped in the confrontational consciousness against the DPRK and clearly shows the present situation of the UNSC which has suffered from dysfunction, being repressed by the high-handedness and arbitrariness of the U.S.

The DPRK resolutely denounces and rejects the despicable "human rights" racket of the U.S. as a wanton infringement and a grave challenge to the dignity and sovereignty of the DPRK.

The U.S. seeks to put someone's "human rights issue" on the table by force, out of the principle of depoliticizing human rights issue and the authority of the UNSC whose mission is to ensure world peace and security. Such senseless and brigandish behavior only brings into bold relief the true colors of the U.S. which becomes the biggest threat to world peace and security.

It is the present address of the U.S. styling itself "superpower" to eke out its feeble chairmanship of the UNSC by suddenly calling a meeting to unjustly criticize sovereign states in secret, not caring about its decency as the chair country.

If a certain country has to be dealt at the UNSC over the "human rights issue", the U.S. should be the first before anyone else as it is the anti-people empire of evils, totally depraved due to all sorts of social evils.

Not content with conniving at and fostering racial discrimination, gun-related crimes, child maltreatment and forced labor rampant in its society, the U.S. has imposed unethical human rights standards on other countries and fomented internal unrest and confusion. In fact, it is the most serious threat to international peace and security and a total criminal state which should be certainly dealt at the UN forum.

It is a mockery of human rights and deception on the international community for such a group of state criminals to convene a meeting for dealing with someone's "human rights issue", professing itself to be a permanent member state of the UNSC.

The present reality, in which the high-handedness and arbitrariness of the U.S. to stifle the ideology and social system of the DPRK are going beyond the limit, reminds us of the immutable truth that any mercy or tolerance towards the U.S. imperialists is absolutely unnecessary.

For the DPRK facing the most hostile and realistic U.S. security threat, defending the sovereignty means defending human rights and to use all available means for defending the sovereignty is the legitimate right of a sovereign state that no one can deny.

The DPRK is ready for the political, military and ideological confrontation with the U.S. imperialists and is closely following the U.S. behavior while opening up all options.

The reckless "human rights" racket is a choice too insufficient to sustain the destiny of the declining U.S., and such senseless act will only result in driving the U.S. into a tighter corner.

Members of the UNSC will have to take a correct stand and attitude, clearly understanding that the real intention of the U.S., which raised the "human rights issue" of the DPRK, has nothing to do with the universal conception of human rights protection and it is only for realizing its narrow-minded and hegemonic geopolitical purpose.

Taking this opportunity, the DPRK solemnly warns some forces blindly following the U.S. whatever it does, to squarely face up to the trend of the times and behave themselves properly.

The DPRK will resolutely counter any hostile act of the U.S. threatening peace and stability of the Korean peninsula and the rest of the world and absolutely defend the sovereignty of the state, the supreme human rights, and the interests of the popular masses.

August of this year when the U.S. has chaired the UNSC will be recorded as the most shameful month in the history of the UN.

KCNA Report on Interim Findings of Investigation into American Solider

Pyongyang, August 16 (KCNA) -- KCNA issued the following report:

In the joint security area of Panmunjom on July 18, Juche 112 (2023), there happened an incident in which Travis King, a private 2nd class of the U.S. Army in south Korea, illegally intruded into the territory of the DPRK.

At 15:30 on July 18, King, who accompanied tourists to the joint security area of Panmunjom, came to be kept under control by soldiers of the Korean People's Army on duty as he deliberately intruded into the area of the DPRK side between the room for the DPRK-U.S. military contacts and the rest room of security officers along the Military Demarcation Line.

According to an investigation by a relevant organ of the DPRK, Travis King admitted that he illegally intruded into the territory of the DPRK.

During the investigation, Travis King confessed that he had decided to come over to the DPRK as he harbored ill feeling against inhuman maltreatment and racial discrimination within the U.S. Army.

He also expressed his willingness to seek refugee in the DPRK or a third country, saying that he was disillusioned at the unequal American society.

The investigation continues.

Mausoleum of King Wang Kon

The Mausoleum of King Wang Kon (877-943), the founder of Koryo, is located in Haeson-ri, Kaesong, in the southwestern part of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Koryo (918-1392) is the first united state in Korea, which added a distinctive page in the country’s history.

As a typical earthen tomb with stone chamber, which inherited the form of tombs from the period of Koguryo (277B.C.-A.D.668), the first feudal state in Korea, there are round it four stone tigers, stone altar, stone posts, statues of military and civil officers, memorial service hall, two pavilions, each preserving a monument, and gate. Standing beside the gate is a monument inscribed with President Kim Il Sung’s autograph, reading, Monument to Reconstruction of the Mausoleum of King Wang Kon, the Founder of Koryo.

The mausoleum was renovated in 1994.

80 000 Blocks of the Complete Collection of Buddhist Scriptures–Historical Relic of Korea

Preserved in the Pohyon Temple in Mt Myohyang is the Complete Collection of Buddhist Scriptures printed with 80 000 wooden blocks, which showcases the printing technology of the Korean nation.

It is an encyclopaedia of Buddhism, compiled on the basis of various scriptures and other books on Buddhism of the days of Koryo (918-1392), the first unified state of Korea. It is also called the Koryo Collection of Buddhist Scriptures as it was printed in the days of Koryo.

The first copy, printed in the first half of the 11th century, was burnt by foreign invaders. Later, from 1236 to 1251, another copy, which consists of 6 793 volumes of 1 539 kinds, was printed. This is the copy that still remains.

At that time, woodcraft workers made the wooden blocks with birch and other kinds of trees, embossed on each block 23 lines of letters, each line consisting of 14 letters, fixed a bronze belt with a nail on each corner of the block, reinforced both edges so that it would not become twisted, and painted lacquer on the block as a moth deterrent.

For their delicateness, wooden blocks look like a fine sculpture.

The collection, recognized as the standard one among the many of its kinds, is a national treasure of the Korean nation as well as a cultural asset of the world.
