4. Instilling the Spirit of Self-reliance
On July 17, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un was awarded the title of Marshal of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). On the occasion of this meaningful day, our people are proudly reflecting on the past 10 years in which they have achieved victory under the leadership of the great brilliant commander.
The title of DPRK Marshal – this is an honorable title our people conferred upon him, carrying a boundless feeling of reverence for the great brilliant commander, and out of their firm faith and iron will to entirely entrust their destiny and future to him and follow him to the last.
During the past 10 years, our great Marshal accomplished greatest immortal exploits that no other great man in this world can achieve.
In such a short period, which could be compared to a moment in the long history of a country and nation, our national power reached its zenith in the world.
Comrade Kim Jong Un opened up a great heyday of the development of Juche-oriented revolutionary armed forces, bearing his noble will in mind that military power immediately means national power and that the prosperity of the fatherland and happiness of the people can be ensured only when we strengthen the military power in every way.
The round-the-clock arduous journey continued by Comrade Kim Jong Un for the great dignity and glory of the fatherland and people brought today’s miracle and victory. It also provided our people and our posterity with strongest national defense capability which enables them to enjoy happiness and comfort throughout generations under the blue sky cleared from a war forever.
A military parade was held in April in celebration of the 90th founding anniversary of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army, to the amazement of the world. It served as an occasion for demonstrating that our national power is no longer a “drop in the ocean” as it was 90 years ago when we had to fight against the Japanese brigands with only 100-or-so rifles. It also displayed its power which can tame the imperialist tyranny on earth at our will.
The world still vividly remembers the tough face of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who expressed his will to continue to strengthen and develop nuclear forces. In the parade square, he said that any forces daring to provoke the DPRK will be annihilated, and in the present world, where different forces collide fiercely with one another, a nation's dignity and sovereignty and reliable genuine peace are guaranteed by powerful defense capability that can overpower any enemy.
As we hold in high esteem Comrade Kim Jong Un, the illustrious commander, who is exactly the same as President Kim Il Sung, the ever-victorious iron-willed brilliant commander, our Republic will further shine as the world’s most dignified state and the invincible socialist power. This is an unwavering conviction of our people.
The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un loves the children most and spares nothing for them.
On April 20, Juche 103 (2014), the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un of the Workers’ Party of Korea, on receiving a report on the completion of the renovation project of the Songdowon International Children’s Camp on his way to a unit of the Korean People’s Army, went to the camp.
Noting that he often pictured in mind the rosy future of the children even though the situation was grim owing to the fierce confrontation with the enemies, he added that he wanted to provide them with the best things in the world as soon as possible.
Looking round the buildings and facilities of the renovated camp, he said with satisfaction that the camp looked as if it was freshly built, not renovated, and it was like a scroll of picture, and that it was a hotel and a palace for children, the like of which could not be found elsewhere in the world.
Going round every place of the camp, he said he could find his past efforts rewarding as he visualized the day when the happy laughter of the children would resound through this modern camp.
Then he resumed his journey for inspection of the KPA unit.
There is another story.
One rainy day in July several years ago, Kim Jong Un visited the Okryu Children’s Hospital under construction.
The construction site was wet and muddy, and the clothes of Kim Jong Un got wet in a short while with rainwater dropping down from the roof.
When officials accompanying him asked him to no longer come to the rugged construction site but visit the hospital after its construction was completed, he told them as follows: I cannot do so because the children’s hospital is a project which is of the greatest concern for him.
While making the rounds of several places of the construction site, he took all the necessary measures for its successful completion, and requested the constructors to build the hospital at the highest level and in a qualitative way.
Then, he set out on another field guidance trip through the pouring rain.
Loud Whistles of School Boats in Mountainous Regions
Various commuting vehicles, such as trains, buses and boats, are in operation for students in mountainous counties of Ryanggang and Jagang provinces, as they have to travel a long distance to and from schools in the ri seats.
Those in several villages in Tongsin County, Jagang Province, commute to schools by boats.
Some ten years ago, when the construction project of the Huichon Power Station started, several villages, hospitals, schools and other institutions in the county had to evacuate. Dams were built and the water level of the Chongchon River, which flows from east to west in the county, rose, forming a large artificial lake along several villages including Tonggwan and Kyonghung ris and submerging some existing roads.
As it caused the students in the areas to walk longer distances to school, the state took the measure to run school boats for them.
At present over a hundred students of the Tonggwan and Kyonghung senior middle schools and two branch schools around the lake commute to schools by boat.
Every morning quays at the lakeside villages are crowded with students getting on board the boat.
The boats stop even for one or two students, and new boats started their voyages two years ago.
Seeing the school boats with schoolchildren singing and laughing merrily on board, the villagers feel grateful for the beneficial measures taken by the state for their children.
Children Go to Camp
On this planet are many people who are left homeless and even lose their lives due to sudden natural disaster, but no examples can be found such as the children in the disaster-stricken area go to the camp under the concern and care of the state.
It happened when a northern part of the DPRK was hit by severe natural disaster between August and September in 2016.
The damage caused at the time in this area from strong wind and heavy rain was very devastating.
Many houses and public buildings were damaged or inundated in several cities and counties, roads, bridges, embankments and railways were broken, and a large area of farmland was inundated. The people in the area were left homeless, and the children lost their schools and extracurricular education bases.
At this juncture, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un took emergency measures to conduct a rehabilitation campaign by mobilizing all human, material and technical resources and made sure that the people’s houses were built first by dispatching powerful construction forces.
He paid a deep concern to relieving the bruise of mind and gloom of the children in the area.
According to special measures taken by Kim Jong Un, 2 000-odd children in the area were sent to the Songdowon International Children’s Camp.
Under his warm care, the children received everything needed for their camping free of charge and they went to the camp as VIPs by special train amid the warm send-off of their parents.
They received every privilege and preferential treatment there and spent a happy life, full of joy.
Amid this legendary-like tale, over 11 900 new houses were built in the disaster-stricken area in a less than two months, thus face-lifting the area beyond recognition. After finishing their happy camping, the children were able to learn to their heart’s content at newly-built schools, singing We Are the Happiest in the World and recollecting the days at the camp.
The fact that the children went to the camp amid the rehabilitation campaign where all efforts of the country were concentrated is told generation after generation along with Kim Jong Un’s love for the rising generation.
July 27, Victory Day of Korean People
Pyongyang, July 15 (KCNA) -- The Korean people defeated the imperialist aggressors in the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953), demonstrating the mettle of Koreans.
At an emergency meeting of the Cabinet held on the first day of the war, President Kim Il Sung said that we should show the mettle of Koreans to the U.S. imperialists who look down upon Koreans as the saying goes that a stick is fit for a wolf.
The President inspired the righteous and brave Korean people with the faith of defending the country.
The Korean people, who do not want to be subject to colonial slavery of the imperialists, turned out as one in the struggle against aggressors, taking up arms to defend the independence of the country, freedom and democracy.
They had created miracles unprecedented in the world history of wars, without the slightest vacillation in face of the heinous imperialist aggressors, and mercilessly stroke the groups of aggressors in the sky, land and sea of the country.
The arrogant aggressors came to realize the mettle, wisdom and courage of Koreans through blood and death every moment of the war.
The U.S. imperialists boasted that they would conclude the Korean War within 72 hours, but had to raise the flag of surrender before the Korean people after the passage of 27 000 hours.
The Korean people's history of victory, created in the Fatherland Liberation War with July 27, the victory day, is given steady continuity century after century.
Instilling the Spirit of Self-reliance
It is the firm faith and will of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un to open up an avenue to the development and prosperity of his country and nation by dint of self-reliance.
At the congresses of the Workers’ Party of Korea, plenary meetings of its Central Committee and other important meetings and in his New Year Addresses, he repeatedly stressed the importance of the spirit of self-reliance, and he implanted the spirit in the hearts of officials and other working people during his ceaseless on-site guidance trip.
He underlined, in his New Year Address for Juche 108 (2019), the need to regard self-reliance as a treasured sword for prosperity, reiterated at the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Seventh WPK Central Committee in April 2019 that building a powerful socialist nation under the uplifted banner of self-reliance is an unshakable political line of the Party and at the Eighth Congress of the WPK held in January 2021 specified the orientation and ways for providing a sure guarantee for achieving self-prosperity .
He clarified various important ideas including that of putting forward self-reliance as a vital demand of development and that of building up the creative ability and development capacity with which to overcome any obstacles and challenges in the way of advance. These ideas served as a dynamic force which enabled the Korean people to advance along the road to self-prosperity braving difficulties and hardships with their own efforts and wisdom.
Whenever he is informed of the achievements made by officials, workers and technicians with their own efforts and technology, he highly praises their feats and makes sure that their deeds are given wide publicity across the country.
The following is a story about the Wonsan Army-People Power Station which has been built as a creation of self-reliance.
One December day several years ago, Kim Jong Un made a long journey to visit the station. Feasting his eyes on the wide artificial lake, he said with satisfaction: It is impressive; I have realized once again how enormous and formidable the mental strength of man with an indomitable resolve is; the creative strength and wisdom of the Korean people who harness the nature at their will is inexhaustible. Then he added: This power station has proved once again that self-reliance is the only way out to survival and nothing would be impossible if we regard self-reliance and self-development as the motive force; it is a power station that is permeated with the unyielding offensive spirit of our Party.
Noting that the officials, Party members and other working people in Kangwon Province are indomitable fighters who have proved in practice the great vitality of the self-development-first principle, by building another power station with very large capacity, he put forward them as the creators of the spirit of Kangwon Province.
When he inspected the Kumkhop General Foodstuff Factory for Sportspeople in January Juche 104 (2015), he highly appreciated the faith of self-reliance cherished by its officials and workers and praised it as a factory that was exemplary in implementing the Party’s policies, a factory that displayed the spirit of self-reliance and a factory that was favoured by the people.
He deeply implants the spirit of self-reliance in all the people he meets and all the units and factories he visits so that they can work with pride in and affection for their own things, relying on their own efforts, technology and resources, and leads them to bring about miraculous achievements and changes in the spirit of self-reliance. Under his leadership, the flames of self-reliance are flaring up across the country and monumental structures are springing up one after another, embellishing the era of the Workers’ Party.
Let us open up the way to development and prosperity by our own efforts and in our own way.
There is no difficulty that cannot be overcome when we advance holding aloft the banner of self-reliance.
The Korean people are dynamically accelerating the advance towards the comprehensive development of socialism in the face of manifold ordeals and difficulties, cherishing this faith and will Kim Jong Un instilled in them.
